    The Gratitude Journal

For cancer afflicted folks, one of the best therapies in all the list is to “journal”.  It’s a way to express yourself, get out your emotions and highlight what’s on the horizon for yourself.  For me, this has been such a great uplifting exercise and now that I’m feeling past the worst parts, I can help others that start at day one.

So, cancer will never not be a part of my life.  I’ll carry it’s scars for a lifetime and as much as it doesn’t “hurt” me as much, it’s always with me.  That said, I share the concept of everyone starting a “Gratitude Journal”.  This is something that one of my best friends has started.  A quick not each day of what she’s happy about.  She’s asked her little girl to do the same.

As a quick note gets jotted down, all the bad parts and the tired end of day turn to a smile.  Today, I’m happy to feel the sweat on my back from the summer heat and  not from a hormone therapy hot flash! (I’ve suffered from shivering, skaing chills from recovery quite a bit along the way)

    The Word “Friend”

Anyone that’s been to the house during the holidays can see five high doorway arches full of greeting cards.  The last couple months have recreated the greetings.  Now two months past surgery,  all hang still in place sending warm wishes.   I can’t imagine the kitchen without them.  I’ll stop and read a few again each day and smile.  It reminds me of all the blessed support that is all around us.   The cards  still arrive.  I just received one that I have to share.

This one was sent to me from a close friend a few states away, who’s always in my thoughts as one of the most thoughtful people I’ve met.  This time, it was a card that made him think of me…it reads:    The word “friend” comes from an old French word that means “one who drinks wine with me.”

He thought of me and had to send it.  Thank you my dear.

It’s not too long that anyone is with me, before they know I enjoy red wine.  I’m no high class wine enthusiast, in fact, if it’s red, I like it.  And I do still enjoy my wine for sure and it’s even been OK’d by my oncologist, gotta love that!   One by one, I look forward to having a glass with everyone at some point, some where as time goes on…cheers.

Tip to all:  take a moment and mail a hand written note to someone.  It will make their day…especially when it’s for simply no reason at all!

    Father’s Day Gift

This year for Father’s Day, Bruce received a family membership to a local nature center right near to his workplace.  The sort of place that has leaps of nooks and crannies filled with interesting facts and creatures!

Beyond the family visits to come, Bruce has vouchers to redeem for the girls to make him lunch, delivered to the picnic benches sprinkled around the grounds.  Other vouchers invite him to take walks with “his girls” on one of the 8 trails through the woods. And a must,  says mommy, that these mid week lunch gatherings must occur a minimum of two times per month, if not more.  Good for all in so many ways.

I love knowing there are so many precious moments to come for sure.  Again, it’s taking a break from all the “indoors” and human stuff we get trapped with, and to look outside and learn from other animals in nature.

    Ice Cream Lunch?

It’s been almost 10 months of me working for myself, along side a cherished friend and business partner and one thing that can’t be beat is the flexiblity around work hours.  So, today I changed the pace.  We popped into Bruce’s office to deliver a summertime treat…yes, ice cream for lunch was the plan.

You can imagine how excited Kristi and Kelli were to hear mommy break all the rules!   After they stood on their tippy toes at Baskin Robbins, we walked out with a full rainbow array of scoops.

These mini breaks are part of my “new beginning”.  A goal that helps stop the world’s regular routine and makes moments to cherish as a family where ever and when ever you can.

The idea will carry through to this year’s Father’s Day present from the girls, but we’ll keep it a secret for now.

    I have Sue’s Back!

Had to share another photo of  what life has brought me and more …. from a life long friendship!  And to those that are in progress to contribute to the cause, donate, run, etc in my honor – you know I’m touched to my soul.  I’m up to a one mile walk in preparation to join some (or all of you) next year for a 5K!
