A Special “Sign”
Another runner comes in for the cause…..
This time it’s a very dear, long term friend of mine. In fact, we shared the same seat on our very first bus ride to school over 32 years ago…one of my longest friendship and one that I value tremendously. Thanks for running for me, the cause and just being you!
As “Baby We Were Born to Run” blared on the topless Jeep ride to the hospital for my surgery admission, a goal of becoming a runner was added to my list. So here I share a portion of the email from my friend, and my training starts to join her next year….and each year beyond!
“There is a part of the festivities when all of the breast cancer survivors march through the crowd. They hold banners denoting who has survived so far <1 year, 1-5 years, 5-10 and so on, up to >20 years. It is truly moving, and I wish I could have captured the palpable presence of their strength and beauty for you to experience. I couldn’t help but imagine you there this year in the front of the line and then again in the future as an old woman bringing up the caboose with your sign of >50 years! Sending you love and continued healing.”
TO THE RUNNER: I’ll have my sneakers packed when I see you next month. I’m not quite up to a run of any speed, but it all starts with the first steps…and make sure I get in my walk each day. :) Thanks again and see you soon to deliver a warm hug in person!
